About Us

Mission Statement

The mission of the Karting with the Stars Fundraiser, with the support of the Disability Wellness Center, is to raise funds for The Greater Orlando Spinal Cord Injury Network as it strives to support Central Florida spinal cord injury survivors as well as raise spinal cord injury awareness. The fund-raising event will be a fun filled, family centered kart racing experience, which recruits the services of celebrities and local sponsors. Our organization is composed entirely of volunteers from a diverse group of compassionate and concerned members of the Central Florida community, spinal cord injury survivors,
as well as business and medical professionals.

Disability Wellness Center

The Disability Wellness Center (DWC) is a non-profit organization established to cater to the specialized needs of individuals in wheelchairs. 1 in 50 people are confined to a wheelchair. The DWC provides physical, emotional, and educational support. A few amenities of the DWC include, wheelchair compatible fitness facility, free seminars conducted by leading physicians and healthcare providers and specialty medical supply store.

Greater Orlando Spinal Cord Injury Network

GOSCIN is a group of individuals with SCI in the Orlando area. our mission is to serve the needs of SCI’s in employment, recreation, adaptive sports, social functions, networking, outreach, SCI prevention, and guest speakers for the group.

The Steering Committee

The steering committee for the Karting With the Stars event is comprised of several unique individuals who all have experience as a Spinal Cord Injury person themselves or working directly with spinal cord injury persons. This compassionate group has come together to coordinate Dr Portee’s vision of creating a kart race event to raise awareness and funding for the Greater Orlando Spinal Cord Injury Network.
